Colombia Tourism by: Wolf Sebring
Colombia tourism has suffered for many years because of all of the murders, kidnappings, drug trafficking, and political uprisings. But the country is trying to change this image and these risks have diminished substantially in recent years in the major cities. In fact, you are more likely to have your wallet stolen than you are to be a victim of a terrorist attack. What this means for you the tourist is that prices are much lower when visiting Colombia than in other countries in Latin America. You should not avoid visiting Colombia just because of a threat of violence coming from some remote region in the country. Just don't take a bus or drive in between cities as it is in the interior where most of the hostile activity takes place. There is so much to see and experience here because the geography is so diverse. You name it; you can probably do it in Colombia. You can enjoy the Caribbean beaches in places like the Rosario Islands, Santa Marta, Cartagena, and Barranquilla . And likewise, you can enjoy the Pacific ocean in places like Nuqui. Or, if you really want to go to a beach away from it all, you can hop on a plane in Cartagena and fly to San Andres Island located faraway in the ocean just each of Nicaragua. Then, when you want to cool down a little head for the capital city of Bogota located 8,000-plus feet above sea level. This is a beautiful city with a strong European influence. Because the altitude is so high, it is very cool and comfortable all year round. Bogota is full of museums, fine restaurants, and night life entertainment. Then when you are ready for something different in tourism, hop on a plane to Leticia, Colombia and take a tour on the famous Amazon River. If it suits, you can even go on a Piranha fishing excursion. Here you will be able to connect to the beauty of the jungle and see all sorts of flowers, insects, and wild life. Colombia tourism is only bound to get stronger as things gradually get more peaceful. Don't pass up an opportunity to see this South American spectacular. |
