Colombia Fishing - Little Known Secrets! by: Wolf Sebring
Colombia Fishing - As you can imagine, it is very bountiful. There are ocean coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. There are also rivers and lakes such as Lake Cocha in Narino and Lake Tota in Boyaca. Additionally, you will find artificial reservoirs at Sisga in Cundinamarca and Neusa stocked with trout. Fish caught here include Tarpon, Trout, Sailfish, Broadbills, Tilapia, Rainbow Trout, and Tuna. Something different in Colombia is the fact that people fish for Piranha in the world-famous Amazon River. The Piranha is the famous meat-eating fish. And that is exactly what you use to fish for them. In fact, this is a very easy form of fishing in that you do not need expensive or elaborate rods and reels. No tackle box is required. All you are going to use is a wood stick with a string and a hook. You'll want to hire an experienced guide in Leticia. The guide will take you out to what is known as the black waters of the Amazon. Here the waters are black because of all the minerals in the tree roots along the river banks and those growing in the water. The bait used in this type of Colombia fishing is meat (of course). You will put the meat on your hook and lower it into the water. Don't leave it there too long as the Piranha will consume all of it from the hook and you will end up empty handed. Just lower the meat in for a short time and pull it back up and you will see that it was "nibbled" on. When you feel a tug on the line, jerk the pole and snag your fish. Watch out for the toes if you drop your fish in the boat. These make a great side dish with your meal although it is reported that eating a fish with teeth like these takes a little getting used to. The Amazon is something unique to the area and is reportedly a very popular attraction in Colombia fishing . |
